Devil May Cry 4 Review
So I honestly have nothing to do. I was sitting around chatting to Cha, when I got the genius idea to start writing reviews for his blog. No one will probably read them, but that is besides the point. I asked him what game I should write a review for and he instantly replied "Devil May Cry 4". So, even though I would probably rather write a review of a different, lets say, more interesting game, I will settle to write my first review about this mediocrity.
So you start the game out as Dante's younger brother - Nero. Not even half as badass as Dante is, Nero walks around like a punk kid with a deformed arm that possesses demon abilities. As you go through the game, you use the good old hack n slash method utilized by all the other Devil May Cry games. They gave Nero the ability to grab enemies with his arm, which I thought made life so much easier. Instead of walking over to all the increasingly annoying monsters, they are brought to you with the help of the circle button. So you basically go on through the game playing Nero's part of the story, all the while increasing your abilities, encountering chicks with not enough clothes on, and fighting Dante who you suspect to be evil. When you reach the pinnacle of Nero's story, the game finally allows you to play as the one and only Dante.
Once you get the ability to play as Dante, you must become accustomed to his different play style. After you remember how to use Dante, you must backtrack all the way through the entire game and also fight the same 3 bosses Nero fought along the way. You will go through some plot twists, back stabbings, and big ass bosses to unravel the story.

Pros: Well I thought this game remained pretty faithful to the Devil May Cry series. While Nero was kind of annoying, he did not bug me that much. I actually kind of liked his playing style. The graphics were pretty good and the voice acting was not so bad. I liked how they made the game easier to actually get through without pulling all your hair out. They also included harder modes for the experienced player. The story was engaging enough.
Cons: If anything has bugged me about the DMC series, it is the camera. They have fixed it a bit in this game, but it still isn't completely polished. Some of the dialogue was stale. The whole backtracking and repeating the same bosses was quite unoriginal. I would have preffered new levels for Dante. Nothing really pops out about this game, it follows the same formula used by the older games.
Overall Score: 85/100

Game of Fall 2008
Since I rediscovered this blog I have been looking at all the old posts. One that I came across is a post about summer 2007 games. I thought I should make another one for the upcoming batch of games.
Lets start with the PS3. The two games I am looking forward to this holiday season are LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2.
LittleBigPlanet is a creative title that I brushed off at first. After this E3 though, I got a better look at it. It actually looks pretty fun. Its got all kinds of craziness going on. Users can create their own content for it and share it for free. I think the levels in it are going to be pretty cool. The game comes out October 21.
Resistance 2 is a direct continuation of Resistance 1. I just finished playing the first game, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The story follows Nathan Hale again as he clashes with the Chimera in America. The release date for the game is currently set for November 4.
Now lets move on to the 360. I am currently looking forward to three games on the Xbox. Those three games are Fable II, Gears of War 2, and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
It seems like an eternity ago when Fable was released. The game promised to provide an experience that has never been in any game before. Even though Fable was really fun, it was far from revolutionary. Now the second game promises to provide more revolutionary game play. I'll be happy if it is on par with the first game. It just looks so damn pretty I can't wait to play it on October 21.
The next game for 360 is Gears of War 2. I was never a die hard fan of Gears 1 but I found it fun enough. The story and the landscape are very dark in the gears series. You will once again fight to save the population from the evil Locust hordes. And plus, who wouldn't want to play as the bad ass Marcus Fenix again? The game hits stores on November 7.
The last and final game for the 360 is Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Having played the old games in Rareware's glory days, I absolutely cannot wait for this game. I have heard mixed reactions but I am really hoping that this game brings Rare back on the map. After releasing mediocre titles such as Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo, Rare needs to release a title that truly represents their ability to make top notch games. Hopefully when this game is finally released on November 28, it will reboot Rare and allow them to make games we have all been looking forward to such as Perfect Dark 2 and Jet Force Gemini 2.
The game still features classic platforming elements while introducing new gameplay with the customizable vehicles. Keep your fingers crossed for this one.
And as for the Wii..... Well it looks like a bleak season for Nintendo's console. If you don't believe me check this out. http://nintendoe32008.ytmnd.com/ Maybe we will play some Shaun White Snowbording or some Animal Crossing City folk. I prefer to I boycott the joke of a system until we get some real titles such as the next Zelda or a real Donkey Kong sequel.
2008 was supposed to be THE year of gaming. Though we have received many great titles such as Grand Theft Auto 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Metal Gear Solid 4 we also saw the delay of many games that were suppsed to make 2008 amazing. Games such as Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Ico next, new Zelda, Killzone 2, and God of War 3 never made it out this year. 2008 is still far from over though. Many multi-platform games that also look promising are Prince of Persia, Star Wars: The Force Unleased, and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest.
Prince of Persia is being re-booted on next gen with an all new prince and all new graphics style. The game is set to release on November 18.
Who doesn't want to play as Darth Vader's apprentice when Star Wars: the Force Unleashed is unleashed onto the public on September 16.
Anyone who has ever played Star Wars Battlefront has been aching for the next iteration of the game. We have to settle for the next best thing. Pandemic, the guys behind Battlefront will be making lord of the rings version of the game. You can play as your favorite Middle Earthian whether it be human, elf, dwarf, or even ork when the game releases on November 4.
Well thats all I have for you this time around. Hopefully these games will live up to the expectations I have for them. Have fun and good playing!
